Our Story

BLUF - The BattleMedQB group has been set up to help students, clinicians and civilians learn the essential knowledge to save lives on the battlefield. 

The world is becoming more unstable and conflict is becoming more common. Some medical knowledge and skills can be life saving. We want to spread these essential knowledge far and wide. 

UK military clinicians need to study and revise this knowledge for the their Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine (PHEM) courses and qualifications, which are similar to ATLS or ETC.

If you want to deploy with the British Armed Forces then you need to show that you are competent to look after injured soldiers. You must pass these PHEM courses. 

The Problems 

1. These PHEM course must be passed so that you can deploy and progress in your career. 
2. If you fail the OSCE or the MCQ then you will most likely need to resit the whole 2 or 3 day course. 
3. The course is notorious for failing doctors who do not follow the course algorithms. 
4. The courses cover a lot of essential knowledge in a short time. 
5. Currently, the preparation for the course is limited to online reading material. 
6. You need to stay current and competent. But knowledge and skills you use rarely in your day job require extra training and revision. 
7. You need to revalidate and pass these courses every 2 years to stay in date.

Why have we developed The BattleMedQB Question Bank? 

We all went through these PHEM courses and deployments the old fashioned way. We got given an A5 leaflet with the course pre-reading and then we did the course. We did the course while we were tired, stressed and panicking. We passed and then we deployed. However, a lot of what we were taught on the course had to be repeated, quite a few times in our own time, to make sure that we had really memorised it. 

These PHEM courses act as a foundation, they are not the end of the learning curve. But it is a pretty steep start for most people, even if you have done ATLS or 6 months working in ED. 

We realised that there had to be a better way to prepare for the courses and to learn the material. We also wanted a quicker and more efficient way to keep that knowledge fresh in our minds. 

The answer we thought was simple, we would create this question bank and then we would not have any excuse for ever forgetting this essential PHEM content ever again.
